“Should the West grow tired of the war, Russia will strike again, with full force,” Podolyak said.

According to him, Ukraine has to do everything it can to liberate as much of its territory – especially in the south.

“The more and the faster we get heavy weapons – the sooner we’ll be able to end this war,” said the official.

He added that a Ukrainian victory would include restoring control over all of Ukraine’s territory, within its internationally-recognized borders.

Podolyak said that Kyiv needs more have weaponry to effectively move in an re-establish control in areas where the Russians retreat. To that end, Ukraine hopes for support from German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who appears to be working to shift away from long-standing amicable relations between Moscow and Berlin.

“Germany ought to follow another path now; to realize what Russia truly is,” said Podolyak.

“Our need for more weapons is a matter of fact.”

In particular, Ukraine needs more long-range barreled and rocket artillery, along with UAVs, according to the adviser.

“Anti-air defenses, such as IRIS-T – which Germany said it’s ready to provide – would help better protect our cities from air strikes,” Podolyak added.

“We need more of those in order to secure at least Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Mykolayiv, and Odesa.”
